Gabrielle Bershen, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado who has been in private practice for over 30 years. I specialize in working with older adults who are facing the aging process, and who want to experience it with acceptance and grace.
I graduated from St. Johns College in Annapolis, MD with a degree in mathematics and western philosophy. Following college, I moved from the East Coast to New Mexico, which was a sharp culture change for me. In 1975, I moved to Boulder, CO to explore the Buddhist community led by Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. This was a profoundly life-changing time for me as I settled into the practice and study of meditation and connected with the Buddhist community here in Boulder.
Concurrently, I started my family at the same time. Growing up in NYC, I was an artist and art lover from an early age. I also enjoy traveling and focus on the art and architecture of the places I visit. For the past 20 years, I've been a clinician and supervisor at Windhorse Community Services which offers contemplatively-based treatment for individuals struggling with major mental illness. I particularly appreciate working with families who have family members with mental health diagnoses.
Both of my parents were in the helping professions, and I grew up with the Complete Works of Sigmund Freud prominently displayed in my home. After 15 years of intensive study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, I decided to study Contemplative Psychology at Naropa University. I wanted my meditation studies to be in service of something and to be of benefit to others, so I was inspired to become a psychotherapist.
